What sparked your interest in becoming a nurse?
Was your decision to become a nurse supported by your parents and teachers?
What is your specialty? -- What are other options for nurses?
Yale is one of the top ten recipients of funds from the National Institute of health-you have received $20 million in grants -- what type of research is being done with it?
You said in another interview that we are approaching the perfect storm in healthcare and that we must predict and respond to rapidly changing forces in Health care. What are some of these forces that are coming together to form the perfect storm?
What skills/abilities do you feel students need to have to be successful in the nursing field in the 21st century?
What is the best way for students to acquire these?
Looking at the people you currently see entering nursing (professional or college), what are their strengths and what are their weaknesses?
Your research was recently named one of the 10 Landmark Nursing Studies by the National Institute of Nursing Research--what was it that you researched?(in the research she researched communication and conflict resolution)
There is a lot of discussion in K-12 education about the importance of content knowledge (knowing a lot of "stuff" about math, science, social studies, language arts, etc.) versus the importance of learning skills and students being able to construct their own understanding of material/ideas that are new to them (being able to "learn how to learn"). What are your thoughts regarding how much we should focus on content knowledge versus focusing on people's ability to learn/adapt/grow? Which would be more important in nursing?
Should there be an emphasis in schools on working in groups to better prepare our students for the demands of being a nurse?
Tell us a little bit about any changes you foresee for nursing in the next 5-15 years (and beyond). What do you think this means for students who currently want to be a nurse?
What types of technologies should our students be proficient at using?
What was the best learning/educational experience you have had? Why?
